Belef 2.03d Read Me File
-------------------------
FEATURE LIST
------------
Before you overlook the main text file, here are a few features you might
want to check out...
o Belef allows YOU to assign ALL commands and options (no matter WHAT they
are for ANY TTP program) to buttons ! Why type when you can click (and
why let someone else decide which archiving options you want) ?!?
o On the RARE occasion when you might need to type, Belef comes with a
special page containing TWO parameter taking panels ! This page can be
used like a normal parameter taking panel OR to chain any two utilities
together !
o Belef's configuration screen allows you to adapt it to any new versions
of compression utilities which might wander down the road ! Someone
changed their commands, added new ones..? NO PROBLEM ! Just add them
on ! Why wait for an upgrade when you can upgrade Belef yourself !?!
o Save ALL of your different utilities varying setups as either SINGLE
utility files (which can be merged into a Belef SETup) or save a COMPLETE
setup for TWO different utilities ! Your most used setup can be loaded
by default so that you're ready to go at any time !
o SETups allow you to have TWO TTP programs available at the SAME time
(on the SAME screen) !
o A "convert" option allows you to "chain" 2 TTP programs (of YOUR choice)
together. One can extract an .ARC file and the other compress it into
an .LZH file !
o Identify file formats (ie: lh0,lh1,lh5) BEFORE acting upon them. Why
find out it's a wrong format for your utility only after your utility
crashes ?!?
o Minimize mouse movements with a dynamic mouse snapping feature that
not only memorizes your common mouse selections, but adapts to your
constantly changing choices (AND use ANY custom mouse cursor you
like) !
o Belef also memorizes ALL fileselector paths (why dredge through countless
directories) for ALL functions ! No need to reset directories after
calling different functions.
o Extract the files you WANT to extract with a QUERY option, keep them
seperate with a folder option or just plain extract them ALL !
o Create special Belef indirection "script" files which allow you to
automate common archiving procedures.
o Copy, move and delete (with wildcards !) and rename files, create
delete and rename folders, quickly check available disk space, use desk
accessories, save your last (or most commonly used) commands, options
and preferences to a special configuration file, PLUS MORE !!!
BEFORE YOU PANIC !!!
--------------------
Belef comes completely ready to use ! You don't NEED to twiddle the
knobs or adjust the horizontal. Just load the file you need and click
on the options you want. That's it ! (of course you're free to
twiddle anything you like).
WELL, ACTUALLY...
-----------------
You WILL need to locate your archiving utilities on the "configure"
screen so that Belef may find them...
CONTROL CODES
-------------
ALL of the control codes have already been entered within the various
files. You don't really NEED to do anything with them unless you wish
to add commands and/or options not covered in any of the SET or SIN
files.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ADD COMMANDS OR OPTIONS
----------------------------------------------
The "control codes" are ESSENTIAL in executing certain functions within
Belef. PLEASE be certain to read the appropriate section in the main
text file. Control codes are entered on the "configure" screen.
DEFAULTS
--------
o The .SET and .SIN files are set to look in the root directory of drive A
for the compression utilities. You CAN change them. Please refer to
BELEFxxx.TXT for an explanation of the .SET and .SIN files.
o The "command" and "configure" screens default to LEFT-MOUSE (regardless
of the "pref" screen). Please refer to the main text file to find out
how to switch them to "multi-mouse" mode.
BELEF.SET
---------
The file BELEF.SET contains a "basic" setup for the compression
utilities...
ARC-ST (aka: ARC602ST) Version 6.02ST (C)System Enhancements Ass.
XLHARC Version 1.2 (C)Bill Shroka
QUESTER'S LZH
-------------
The file QUESTER.SIN contains a "basic" SINgle setup for Quester's
!LHARC Version 2.01k
o When entering an "option" on the configuration screen, you MUST
precede the option with a blank space. Refer to QUESTER.SIN to
see what I mean. This ONLY applies to Quester's LZH program.
o The LAST character on the TEMP line (on the Configuration screen) MUST
be a backslash \ . See the file QUESTER.SIN .
These are peculiarities of this particular archiving utility.
DHESI'S ZOO.TTP
---------------
If you are using Rahul Dhesi's ZOO.TTP please note that ZOO.TTP likes
to select it's OWN extraction path (at least v.2.1 does). Selecting
CANCEL in the second fileselector and CONTinue in the following alert
allows this program to select it's own extraction path.
NOTE that DHESIZOO.SIN does NOT contain a TEMP path. Now you know why !
Belef merely gives you a default extraction path for the second
fileselector in case you forgot to enter one :-) .
ABOUT THE DEMO VERSION
----------------------
o You cannot save BELEF.CNF. Refer to BELEFxxx.TXT to see what it contains.
o You cannot change the date from within Belef.
